Police Appreciation Day



On Saturday, Valley Mall will host a police appreciation day from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. The Washington County Sheriff's Department has designated May as Motorcycle Safety Month. Motorcycles from Twiggs Cycle will be on display. Bikers Against Child Abuse and American Bikers Aimed Toward Education will provide educational literature.

The Washington County SWAT armored personnel carrier, the Washington County Detention Center transport van and a Washington County Sheriff's Department patrol cruiser will be on display.

Allied Barton Security Service/Valley Mall Security will distribute Stranger Danger Safety brochures and Stranger Danger Safety stickers for children.

Cully the Conductor, Valley Mall's mascot, will tour the mall in search of hugs and photos from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Spring concert



Students in fourth and fifth grades in both band and orchestra at Hickory and Lincolnshire elementary schools will present a spring concert at Lincolnshire Elementary Tuesday, May 18, at 6:30 p.m. in the Lincolnshire Elementary cafeteria.

Yard sale



A community yard sale is planned at Hickory Elementary Saturday, May 29, beginning at 7 a.m.

Tables are available to rent for $10.

Refreshments are planned along with other activities.

Money bonanza



The Williamsport High School Blue Band Boosters will hold a money bonanza Friday, May 21, at the Elks Lodge on Robinwood Drive in Hagerstown.

It is open to anyone 21 and older.

Tickets cost $35 per couple, which includes dinner, soda, dessert, beer on tap and a chance to win money.

The first and every 10th ticket drawn will win $35.

The last drawing will be for $1,000.

There will be a cash bar, drawings, raffles, 50/50 and tip jars. Doors open at 5 p.m. and dinner will be served at 6.

There will be a DJ from 8 to 11 p.m.

Character Counts!



Students at Hickory Elementary who displayed the six pillars of character were awarded with a celebration assembly April 26.

The following is a list of the students who received the honor for the month of April: Coby Brady, Jordan Brown, Jacob Danner, Mariah Davis, Stephen Goodman, Katana Hawkes, Leanne Jones, Jakob Lane, Hao Lui, Khosim Mohamad, Tanner Morgan, Tea Taylor, Destiny Vinyard and Brittany Weese.

Spring concert



The annual Blue Band spring concert will be today at 7:30 p.m. in the Williamsport High School auditorium, 5 S. Clifton Drive.

Tickets cost $5 for adults and $2 for students and seniors. Tickets can be purchased from any band student or at the door.

During the concert, Robert Stike, the band director, and the WHS Wind Ensemble will play a piece to promote cancer awareness.

The band will also collect free-will donations to assist the Josh Forsythe family. Josh is a member of the band who is battling cancer.
