Clear Spring gets top seed in 1A West baseball

Clear Spring garnered the top seed in Class 1A West as the Maryland Public Secondary Schools Athletic Association held its baseball tournament bracket draw on Wednesday.

The Blazers (15-2) drew a first-round bye and will host the winner of Friday's Williamsport at Fort Hill contest in the quarterfinals on Monday.

In other first-round games Friday, Hancock (10-7) will host Catoctin (11-9), Boonsboro (3-17) will travel to Allegany (7-10) and Smithsburg (10-8) will host Brunswick (9-11).

Mountain Ridge (12-4) drew the No. 2 seed and Southern Garrett (12-5) is seeded third.

In Class 2A West, North Hagerstown (12-6) earned the No. 2 seed and gets a first-round bye. The Hubs will have a home game Monday against the winner of Friday's North Carroll-Poolesville game.

South Hagerstown (12-8) gets a chance for quick revenge in the 3A West first round as the Rebels will entertain Linganore (9-8) on Friday, one week after losing to the Lancers 7-5 at Linganore.

Quarterfinal games are tentatively slated for Monday, with semifinals on May 19 and region finals on May 21.
