Suns fall 3-2 at Augusta

AUGUSTA, Ga. -- Thomas Joseph had three of Augusta's eight hits and drove in what proved to be the game-winning run in the GreenJackets' 3-2 victory over the Hagerstown Suns on Monday night.

Augusta scored all three of its runs in the bottom of the eighth inning against reliever Wanel Vasquez (2-1), after the Suns had taken a 1-0 lead in the top half of the inning.

The loss spoiled a stellar outing by Hagerstown starter Daniel Rosenbaum, who allowed only three hits while walking none and striking out nine in seven shutout innings.

The Suns scored their run in the eighth on back-to-back, one-out doubles by Marcus Jones and Sandy Leon.

The Suns tried to rally back in the ninth against Augusta reliever Jose Casilla.

Steven Souza tripled with one out and scored to make it 3-2 on Destin Hood's two-out RBI single.

J.P. Ramirez then singled, and an error put runners on second and third.

But Ryan Verdugo relieved Casilla and struck out Jones for the final out.

Augusta starter Bryan Salsbury (4-2) pitched eight strong innings for the win. He allowed one run on four hits, while walking none and striking out 10.

Souza and Ramirez each had two of Hagerstown's seven hits.
