The Rev. John Noel Fullen, 70, of Fairfax, Va., known to his family, friends and colleagues as Fr. Jack, passed away May 7, 2010, at INOVA Fair Oaks Hospital following complications from heart surgery last fall.

Born Dec. 25, 1939, in Brooklyn, N.Y., he was the son of John and Mildred Ghiold Fullen.

On Sept. 1, 1962, in South Hadley Falls, Mass., he married the former Sandra Best, who preceded him in death on Oct. 11, 1986.

His educational career began at the University of Bridgeport, graduating with a bachelor of science degree.

He served three years in the United States Marines as a communications officer and later worked for the Harris Corp. in the marketing department for more than 20 years.

He and his wife, Sandra, served on the Worldwide Marriage Encounter Board of Directors for two years. After the death of his wife, he went on to graduate from Blessed John XXIII National Seminary with a master of divinity degree, and was ordained on May 27, 1995, at the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Queen.


Father Jack served the Archdiocese of Baltimore, retiring in 2001. After his retirement, he was a visiting priest at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Gainesville, St. Raymond of Penafort Catholic Church in Springfield, St. Claire of Assisi Catholic Church in Clifton and Our Lady of Hope in Potomac Falls.

He was the co-founder and Missionary Priest for the Missionaries of Our Lady of Divine Mercy, House of Mercy in Manassas, and served in the same capacity in Cote d'Ivoire, Ivory Coast.

Survivors include one daughter, Pamela Morrison and her husband, Bruce, of Fairfax; two sons, Michael Fullen of San Diego, Calif., and Jason Fullen and his wife, Megan, of Fairfax; four grandchildren, Payton, Sydney, Hailey and Connor; and two families that he considered special to his heart, the Ross family of Bristow and the Poulin family of West Virginia.

The family will receive friends Tuesday, May 11, 2010, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 9 p.m. at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, 8213 Linton Hall Road, Gainesville; the Chaplet of Divine Mercy will be offered at 3 p.m., a rosary at 7 p.m. and a prayer service beginning at 7:30 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday, May 12, 2010, at 10:30 a.m. at Holy Trinity Catholic Church with the Rev. Francis J. Peffley as the celebrant and the Rev. James R. Gould concelebrating.

Interment will take place in Colombia Gardens, Arlington, Va., at 2:30 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, Fr. Jack has requested memorial contributions be made to the Missionaries of Our Lady of Divine Mercy, 10043 Nokesville Road, Manassas, VA 20110; or to Holy Trinity Catholic Church, 8213 Linton Hall Road, Gainesville, VA 20155.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Baker-Post Funeral Home & Cremation Center, under the direction of Michael Post.
