Lazich honored for academic, community achievements

WASHINGTON COUNTY --Clear Spring Middle School seventh-grader Riley Lazich was presented this month with the Washington County Youth Meritorious Award for his academic and community achievements.

Riley, who was described in a nomination as "a very motivated and hardworking student," takes all merit classes, and has been on the honor roll and distinguished honor roll throughout middle school.

He is a former Character Counts! award recipient and was named a star student in social studies during one of the marking periods this school year.

Riley has played baseball, basketball and football competitively for several years.

"He is known for his respect of others and his encouragement of peers to exhibit the same respect," guidance counselor Earl Meagher wrote. "Riley's leadership, work habits and accomplishments are truly outstanding."

He is the son of Peter and Tara Lazich.

Riley was presented with the award at the May 4 meeting of the Washington County Commissioners.

He was selected for the award by the Community Partnership for Children and Families' Community Outreach Committee.
