MYERSVILLE, Md. -- A Hagerstown man was in critical condition Thursday night at the R Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore after he was thrown from a motorcycle in a crash at the intersection of Pleasant Walk Road and U.S. 40, according to Maryland State Police.

The crash occurred at 7:48 p.m., when Zachary Gunther, 19, of Myersville, was attempting to enter eastbound U.S. 40 from Pleasant Walk Road in a 2001 Volkswagen Jetta and pulled in front of a motorcycle being driven by Charles Thompson III, 46, of Hagerstown, police said.

Thompson was thrown from the motorcycle and flown to the shock trauma center, police said.

Gunther was cited for failing to yield the intersection right of way, police said.
