WASHINGTON COUNTY -- Bonanza Extravaganza is expected to attract 16,000 people to the Hagerstown Speedway grounds today and Saturday as more than $825,000 in prizes will be awarded, said Glenn Fuscsick, one of the organizers.

Most of those prizes will be given out Saturday, which is considered the main day of the event, said Fuscsick, treasurer for the IAFF Local 1605 Foundation.

This is the fifth Bonanza Extravaganza the nonprofit International Association of Fire Fighters chapter's foundation has held to raise money for local nonprofits, including fire and rescue companies that assist the foundation during the event, Fuscsick said.

New this year is a drawing for designated drivers, Fuscsick said. Two drawings will be held Saturday night with each one awarding $500 to a designated driver.

From last year's event, the foundation gave more than $50,000 to Antietam Healthcare Foundation for a van to transport cancer patients to the John R. Marsh Cancer Center at Robinwood Medical Center, Fuscsick said.

More than $110,000 was given to local fire and rescue companies, he said. That money came from last year's event as well as from the foundation's reserves, he said.

Prizes to be awarded Saturday include the $100,000 grand prize, seven new Harley-Davidson motorcycles, and seven new Chevy vehicles, including two Camaros and a Corvette, according to the website.

Fuscsick said $20,000 in prizes will be awarded Friday night, when ticketholders must be present to win. They do not have to be present Saturday to win, he said.
