CLEAR SPRING -- After nearly upsetting Catoctin, the Boonsboro softball team completed the feat at the expense of Clear Spring.

The Warriors did what it needed on Wednesday to upset the Blazers 3-2 in an MVAL Antietam game.

"I am actually proud of the girls," Boonsboro coach Lisa Lewis said. "They have actually stepped up as a team during the last two games. They have really been alert in the field and talking. We did well in crucial moments."

Boonsboro senior pitcher Megan Long (6-5) allowed two runs, without issuing a walk in a complete-game win.

"I just went out and did the best that I could," Long said. "I didn't worry about giving up too many hits. I just threw as hard as I could and worked around the plate."

"Megan Long has thrown two wonderful games in a row," Lewis said. "She has worked her pitches. Her rise has been working well and she has been hitting her corners. She has been keeping the batters off-balanced."

Long came out on top of a pitching duel with Clear Spring's Amber Forrest. Forrest allowed one earned run and one walk, while striking out nine in seven innings.

Breanne Lohman got two RBIs and Haley Payne scored two runs for Boonsboro (9-8, 6-8). Kayla Payne and Amber Welch got two hits each for the Warriors.

Heather Schlotterbeck ripped three hits for Clear Spring (14-3, 10-3). Damara McDonough and Forrest added two hits each for the Blazers.

Boonsboro scored right away in the top of the first inning when Haley Payne scored on a double by Lohman.

The Warriors added two runs in the third to boost their lead to 3-0. Designated runner Shelby Griffith scored on a Lohman grounder, that also scored Haley Payne with the help of a throwing error.

Clear Spring scored two runs in the third to narrow the gap. Forrest ripped an RBI single to center to score Schlotterbeck. Haley Thorn grounded to second to bring home McDonough.
