Ballroom dancing set for Friday



Jim Powers will hold his ballroom dance party Friday from 7 to 10 p.m. at the Maugansville Ruritan Building on Maugans Avenue. Admission costs $4 per person.

Car wash to aid youth mission trip



The Crow Creek 2010 Mission Team will hold a car wash/yard sale Saturday at Hahn's Service Station on Jefferson Boulevard in Smithsburg and a car wash only at Lifehouse Church East parking lot in Leitersburg from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. (rain date is Saturday, May 15.) All proceeds will go toward the construction project on the Crow Creek Sioux Reservation in Fort Thompson, S.D.

Way to go, Charles



Charles Newcomer of Ringgold was awarded a 5,000-hour award for volunteering at the Waynesboro (Pa.) Hospital. Charles volunteers in the diagnostic imaging department and the emergency department. Charles has been volunteering for more than 10 years at the hospital.

Spring luncheon



AARP Chapter 623 will hold its spring luncheon at the Western Sizzlin' restaurant Tuesday, May 11, at 1 p.m. The meeting will be in the banquet room.

Fundraiser



A steak and shrimp dinner fundraiser is planned Saturday, June 12, by the Smithsburg JRL Community Center to raise funds to build a community center.

The event will be held at the North American Rod & Gun Club in Hagerstown. Doors open at 5 p.m. and dinner is from 6 to 8 p.m.

Tickets cost $30 per couple before May 15. There's a chance the event might be canceled if not enough tickets are sold.
