Library event set for today

The Friends of Washington County Free Library will meet today at the Williamsport Memorial Library at 10:30 a.m. in the Sue Ann Sullivan Auditorium. Susan Schnebly, branch manager, and Joe Thompson, associate director of the Western Maryland Regional Library, will be the speakers. All interested library patrons are welcome.

Classic car show among events planned

o The Williamsport Town Employees fourth annual Classic Car Show takes place Saturday at Byron Memorial Park. Registration is from 8 a.m. to noon, voting from noon to 1:30 p.m., and award ceremony at 3 p.m. The $10 entry fee is due on the day of show. Proceeds benefit "Christmas in the Park." o The "Classic Crafts" Show will be presented in the Community Building at Byron Memorial Park in conjunction with the car show. o The cruise-in starts Saturday at 6 p.m. at the Springfield Farm parking lot on Springfield Lane. Entry fee is $2. For more information, contact Jim Black at 301-573-1501.

o A 1950s-era dance will be held in Springfield Farm Barn on Saturday at 7 p.m. Tickets cost $2 at the door. The dance will be held rain or shine.

Bingo fundraiser planned

The Williamsport Volunteer Fire and EMS is holding a Vera Bradley bingo fundraiser Sunday, May 16, at the fire hall on Brandy Drive. Doors open at 11 a.m. and lunch will be served at noon. Bingo starts at 1 p.m. and includes 30 games.

There will be King Tuts, tip jars, raffles, door prizes and loser prizes. Children are welcome to play with ticket purchase. Tickets cost $25 in advance and $30 at the door. For more information, call 301-223-8554.

WHS Cats to Cats Club sponsors clothing drive

The Williamsport High School Cats to Cats Club is sponsoring a clothing drive at the school. Donated clothes can be dropped off at the gym lobby from 8 to 8:40 a.m. during the week of May 10 to 14. The items will be given to Williamsport area families in August before the next school year starts.

Angel Food ordering time

Angel Food orders will be taken Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Saturday from noon to 2 p.m. in the Fellowship Hall at Rehoboth United Methodist Church, 30 E. Salisbury St.

Clothes of Hope schedule for May

Clothes of Hope Ministries at Williamsport United Methodist Church, 25 E. Church St., provides gently used and some new clothing. They will be open on Thursday and May 20, 9 a.m. to noon; Saturday and May 22 from 9 to 11 a.m.; and Monday, May 17, 12:30 to 2:30 p.m.

There is no charge for the clothing. Monetary donations are appreciated. The ministry will be open Thursday, May 13, from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. to collect clothes only.

News from Springfield Middle School

o Today, eighth-graders will take the MSA science test and the sixth- and seventh-graders will take a mock science test.

o On Thursday, Springfield students will participate in the 24 Game Tournament at Hagerstown Community College. There will be a hearing screening for all eighth-graders beginning at 8 a.m.

o The seventh grade will participate in the bowling and skating trip Friday.

o A book fair will be held at Springfield Middle School during the week of May 10 to 14. Evening hours will be on Thursday, May 13, until 8:30 p.m.

o The fifth marking period STARS and Character Counts Breakfast will be Tuesday, May 11, at 7 a.m.

o The Springfield Orchestra will hold its concert at Williamsport High School Tuesday, May 11, at 7 p.m.
