Smithsburg Fire Co. responded to 42 calls in April

Smithsburg Community Volunteer Fire Co. responded to 42 calls for service in April 2010, according to Fire Chief Chris D. Rohrer.

The calls included five structure fires, five vehicle accidents with injuries and five property damage accidents with no injuries.

The department responded and assisted neighboring counties six times with working incidents while maintaining zero response failures for the month.

Forty-two different personnel participated during April, for an average personnel per call of 10.25 for the month.

Smithsburg Fire's top five responders for April were: Charles Baker Jr. and David Johnson (27 calls each); Michael Scott (25); Charles Johnson Jr. and Sean Scott (21 each); Phil Rohrer, Kenny Smith and Chuck Scott (20 each); and Danny Gibson, Barry Gipp Sr. and Barry Gipp Jr. (17 each).

The fire company hosted the Maryland State Fireman's Association's Rural Water Supply Drill on Sunday. Departments from around the state practiced various way to provide a constant and consistent water supply without the aid of fire hydrants.

Smithsburg Fire assisted Trinity Lutheran prekindergarten, using the engine room area for their Amazing Race event. The department also provided station tours and public education for several community organizations.
