Smithsburg EMS responded to 75 calls for service in March

Smithsburg Emergency Medical Services (SEMS) responded to 75 calls for service in March, according to Deputy Chief James Ulrich.

Calls included 14 responses in town limits, 12 responses to the Leitersburg area, two to the Mount Aetna area and five to the Cascade/Pen Mar area. There were 10 mutual-aid calls to Frederick County, Md.; two to Franklin County, Pa.; and six to the Hagerstown area.

SEMS responded to 55 medical calls and 16 trauma calls, including nine vehicle, motorcycle, moped and pedestrian accidents. There were also two calls to assist the fire department and two public service/citizen assist calls.

The top five volunteer responders for March were Brian House, James Ulrich, Thomas Benjamin, Krystina Gaudio and Andy Smith.

On March 22, Smithsburg EMS welcomed a local Girl Scouts group for a tour of the station and life-saving equipment that are carried on the SEMS fleet. The girls learned what EMS is and does, what equipment emergency medical technicians and paramedics operate, and when to dial 911.
