HEDGESVILLE, W.Va. - Edward Alan Mason, 50, passed away Thursday, April 29, 2010, at his home in Hedgesville, W.Va.

He was born in Roanoke, Va., on March 3, 1960, and graduated from William Fleming High School in 1978. He also attended Shenandoah Conservatory of Music in Winchester, Va.

Alan was a music educator and professional musician who recorded and performed in the Hagerstown area. Most recently, he served as pianist and guitarist at the Lutheran Church in Hagerstown, Md.

He was preceded in death by his brother, Thomas Malcolm Mason.

He is survived by his parents, Malcolm and Frances Mason of Roanoke.

A memorial service will be Monday, May 3, 2010, at 4 p.m. at Oakey's South Chapel, 4257 Brambleton Ave., Roanoke, VA 24018. The Rev. John Cochran will officiate. Interment will be private.

The family will receive friends Monday from 3 p.m. until the service at 4 p.m. at Oakey's South Chapel.

He will be remembered by friends and family both in Roanoke and Hagerstown for his quick smile and easygoing manner, and lives on through his music and the generations of students whose talent he encouraged and developed.
