HAGERSTOWN -- The battle for the boys team title at the seventh annual MVAL Antietam Track & Field Championships on Friday at North Hagerstown was expected to be a close, down-to-the-wire fight between Brunswick and defending champ Williamsport.

    It wasn't.

The Wildcats easily won again, scoring 152 points -- 45 more than runner-up Brunswick.

"We came prepared," said Williamsport senior Justin Bowie. "We knew what Brunswick and the other teams would bring to the meet. We've really, really been training hard for this meet and all the championship meets coming up. We're ready to take on the top teams."

Bowie won the 110-meter hurdles in 15.08 seconds, the 300 hurdles in 40.95 and anchored the 4x400 to victory in a meet-record time of 3:30.48.

Stephen Christy also set a meet record for the Wildcats, winning the high jump at 6 feet, 3 inches. Williamsport also got wins from Mark Oliver in the 3,200 (10:26.42) and Chima Ezidinma, Christopher Githens, Reggie Russ and Collin Linton in the 4x100 (44.67).

Smithsburg's Joey Barvir had two of the meet's most impressive performances. First, he pulled away from star teammate David Wilson on the last lap of the 1,600 to win in a meet-record 4:25.30, while also taking Wilson's school record by six-hundredths of a second.

"Dave and I have three classes together. He's one of my great friends," Barvir said. "It's a weird feeling. I was ecstatic, but I also know how much he works. It's cool, though."

Barvir then joined the exclusive sub-2 club with his victory in the 800 (1:59.85).

Coby Gussio set two meet records for Boonsboro with his wins in the long jump (22 feet, 1 1/2 inches) and triple jump (44-11 1/4). His previous personal record in the triple jump was 41-9 1/2.

"I was ecstatic with the triple," he said. "To PR by three feet is definitely a good day."

For South Hagerstown, which finished third with 88 points, Eric Davis, Xavier Richardson, Seth Ofosu-Ameyaw and Jordan Alston won the 4x200 (1:31.19) and Chip Rittenhouse, Colby Robinson, Brandon Horning and Sam Jones won the 4x800 (8:29.33). Both relay teams set meet and school records.

"Hopefully that's something to keep us going," Rebels coach Dwayne Freeman said.

For host North, Anthony Winter won the 100 (11.35) and Dominic Sink set the meet record in the pole vault (14-0).
