Pet reunited with owner

A lost beagle was reunited with its owner April 21 at the Humane Society of Washington County in Hagerstown.

Ru made his escape the night after his family moved into a new home and was missing for almost two weeks. A member of the community finally came across the traveling 13-year-old dog and contacted the shelter, where Ru spent an hour before his family came for him.

Thomas and Jennifer Cordell, Ru's owners, were grateful to have finally found their pet.

"Words can't say how happy my husband and Tommy and I are to have him back home. It means a lot to have our family back together again as a whole and now we can truly enjoy our new house," Jennifer Cordell said.

If your pet goes missing, contact the shelter at 301-733-2060 to complete a lost and found report and submit a photo if possible. Animals that arrive at the shelter are checked against a database of reported lost pets. If there is a possibility of a match, you will be contacted to visit the animal and determine if it is your missing pet. It is also a good idea to come in and view the animals as descriptions are sometimes not enough, especially with cats.

One way to ensure return of your lost pet is by having it microchipped. The shelter offers microchipping services for $15 per animal at its rabies and microchip clinics. They take place from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on April 24, May 29, July 17, Aug. 14, and Sept. 25 at various locations throughout the county. For a list of details on the clinics, go to http://www.hswcmd.org.

The Humane Society is at 13011 Maugansville Road in Hagerstown. Call 301-733-2060 or go to http://www.hswcmd.org for information on animal-related issues, directions to the shelter and information about programs and services.
