BERKELEY SPRINGS, W.Va. - John William Easton, 83, of Berkeley Springs, W.Va., died Tuesday, April 27, 2010, at Winchester (Va.) Medical Center.

Born Dec. 6, 1926, in Hancock, Md., he was the son of the late John Edward Easton and Carrie Catherine Hoyle Easton Pryor.

He was a member of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church in Berkeley Springs. He attended public schools in Hancock. He worked as a mechanic with Kirk Ford in Hancock from 1952 to 1965, with T.H. Compton Trucking in Berkeley Springs from 1965 to 1974 and was a truck driver with Fulton Petroleum Sales in Hancock from 1974 to 1986. Mr. Easton was a member of the Junior Order of United American Mechanics Council No. 117 and Mountain State Cruisers, both in Berkeley Springs, the Mason-Dixon Auto Club in Hagerstown and the Antique Automobile Club of America. He was a tinkerer and an expert at antique automobile restoration.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Swella McCumbee Wills Easton of Berkeley Springs; his daughter-in-law, Linda Kay Easton of Berkeley Springs; four grandchildren, Kimberley Easton Olson of Purcellville, Va., Karen Denise Tellez of Dayton, Texas, Wendy Lou Farmer of Martinsburg, W.Va., and Gary William Easton Jr. of Berkeley Springs; two sisters, Mary Elizabeth Faraclas of Berkeley Springs and Connie Vera Hovermale of Maugansville, Md.; nine great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; his stepson, Richard James Wills, and his wife, Diane, of Berkeley Springs; and his stepgranddaughter, Kelly D. Wills of Berkeley Springs.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Mary Frances Burton Easton, on Feb. 15, 1987; his son, Gary William Easton Sr., on April 20, 2006; and three brothers, Eugene Kelly Easton, Robert Lee "Ginger" Easton and Donald Wayne Pryor.

A Mass of Christian burial will be offered at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 1, 2010, at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, South Washington and Liberty streets, Berkeley Springs with Father Leonard A. Smith as celebrant. Interment will be in Greenway Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Helsley-Johnson Funeral Home, 95 Union St., Berkeley Springs, where there will be a Christian Wake service at 6:30 p.m. and a Junior Order Memorial Service at 7:30 p.m. The funeral home will be open from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday for the convenience of family and friends.
