Clinton Albert Hartley, 74, of Hagerstown, went to be with the Lord Sunday, April 25, 2010, at the Golden Living Center, Hagerstown, Md.

Born June 6, 1935, in Piney Plains, Md., he was the son of the late Clarence Cross and Ora Nancy (Whitefield) Hartley.

He was the husband of 49 years to Darla Mae (Golden) Hartley of Hagerstown.

Clinton graduated from Flintstone High School, Flintstone, Md., class of 1953.

He served in the U.S. Army from 1958 to 1960. He later worked as a highway inspector for Montgomery County, retiring in 1994 after 26 years of service.

His hobbies included fishing and hunting with his son and many hunting buddies at his camp in Clearville, Pa.

In addition to his wife, Clinton is survived by one daughter, Bonnie H. Faust and husband, Frederick D., of Owings Mills, Md.; one son Douglas C. Hartley and wife, Laura G., of Union Bridge, Md.; two granddaughters, Sonny G. Szymanski and husband, Lance Cpl. Adam Szymanski, of Twentynine Palms, Calif., and Annie N. Grimes of Union Bridge; one sister, Geraldine H. Morris and husband, Harold, of Flintstone; and two sisters-in-law, Evelyn Hartley of Little Orleans, Md., and Leticia Hartley of Hagerstown.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, George H. Hartley and Clifford M. Hartley.

The funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, April 29, 2010, at Piney Plains United Methodist Church, Little Orleans. The Rev. Reuben Rinker will officiate. Burial will be in Piney Plains Cemetery, Little Orleans, with military honors provided by Webster B. Harrison Post 26 of the American Legion, Hancock, Md.

The visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. today at Gerald N. Minnich Funeral Home, 305 N. Potomac Street, Hagerstown, and 10:30 to 11 a.m. Thursday at the church.

The family members wish to extend their deepest gratitude to the staff of the Golden Living Center for the compassionate, loving care that Clinton received while living there.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions may be made to Piney Plains Cemetery Fund, c/o Margo Mann, 13308 Ballfield Road, Little Orleans, MD 21766; or to Hospice of Washington County, 747 Northern Ave., Hagerstown, MD 21742.

The Gerald N. Minnich Funeral Home, Bryan K. Kenworthy P.A., 305 N. Potomac St., Hagerstown, has been entrusted with the arrangements.
