MAUGANSVILLE - James Joseph Weddle Sr., 67, of Maugansville, Md., passed away with his wife by his bedside on Sunday, April 25, 2010, at The Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, Md., following a lengthy illness.

He received an honorable discharge from the U.S. Navy. He participated in the Cuban Crisis.

He retired from Certain-Teed Corp. in 2005 after 22 years.

During his lifetime, he was an avid hunter and fisherman. He also enjoyed boating, crabbing and camping with his friends and family.

Jim was a member of American Legion Post 42, Improved Order of Red Men Tribe 84 of Williamsport and a lifetime member of AMVETS Post 10.

Jim was a loving husband, father, grandfather and brother.

He is survived by his wife of nearly 48 years, Georgia (Winters) Weddle; daughter, Yvonne T. (Weddle) Myers; two sons, James J. Weddle Jr. and Kevin R. Weddle and wife, Tina; grandson, Kevin James Weddle; granddaughters, Alisha Poole and Ashli Starner and husband, James; great-grandson, Tyler M. Starner; brothers and sisters, Harry S. Weddle Jr., Ann (Weddle) Leatherman, Michael R. Weddle, Susan (Weddle) Malloy, Christopher E. Weddle and families; and several nieces and nephews.

At his request, Jim will be cremated. Memorial services will be Wednesday, April 28, 2010, at 1 p.m. at Douglas A. Fiery Funeral Home, 1331 Eastern Blvd. North, Hagerstown, Md. Inurnment will follow at Cedar Lawn Memorial Park, Hagerstown, with military honors conducted by AMVETS Post 10.

Family will receive friends today from 6 to 8 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, Jim requested memorial donations be made to the Community Free Clinic, 249 Mill St. Hagerstown, MD 21740.
