Boonsboro Historical Society plans presentation on 1950s

BOONSBORO -- The Boonsboro Historical Society will meet Tuesday at 7:30 p.m.at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, 64 S. Main St.

Bob Savitt will present "The Fabulous '50s" a multimedia presentation.

He will use slides, photos, music, audio excerpts and magazines to recall the events and atmosphere of the mid-20th century, including Elvis, Ike, poodle skirts, the Cold War, fins on cars and rock 'n' roll.

o In other news, the Bowman House will be part of the Museum Ramble Sunday.

The house is at 323 N. Main St. in Boonsboro. The event will be from 1 to 5 p.m.

Open-hearth cooking (late-growing winter vegetables and fruits), herb garden, candle making, pottery demonstrations and house tours will be featured.

The Bowman House, built in 1826,is typical of log houses built in Western Maryland during the first half of the nineteenth century.

In 1868, John Bowman purchased thehouse and established the "Boonsboro Pottery." His kiln was to the rear of the building.
