The Hispanic Association of Hagerstown recently introduced the first scholarship intended to support the Hispanic student body of Hagerstown Community College.

It awarded its first three scholarships this past month. Recipients included Guillermo Perez, Paulina Resendiz and Roselyn Melgar, all of Hagerstown.

"The Hispanic Association of Hagerstown and our sponsors feel honored to be able to help with the education of Hagerstown Community College Hispanic students.

"As the community continues to grow with Latinos, this scholarship fund provides students with a great opportunity and the HAH members, as well as myself, feel honored to be a part of it," said Diana Reyes, committee president.

The deadline to apply for the fall semester is May 15.

Applications can be picked up at the Student Financial Aid Office in the Administration and Student Affairs Building on HCC's main campus.

All applications must be mailed directly to Hispanic Association of Hagerstown, P.O. Box 2245, Hagerstown, MD 21741.

Applications must be submitted in English and applications returned to HCC will not be considered.
