HAGERSTOWN -- "I refuse to lose," Renee Phillips said. "I like winning."

The senior's attitude seems to be contagious among her fellow members of the North Hagerstown girls track and field team.

The host Hubs scored 148 points to easily defend their title Saturday at the 17th annual Chuck Zonis Invitational. Carlisle finished second in the 10-team field with 99 points.

Phillips helped lead the way, winning both the 100 (12.88 seconds) and 200 (26.11) and anchoring the 4x100 (50.79) and 4x200 (1:45.07) to another pair of wins. In the 4x200, she teamed with Imani Carter, Corie Anderson and Katie Ritter to set an all-time Washington County record. The previous record of 1:45.14 was set by Smithsburg in 2004.

"I felt like I was going so fast on that last 200," said Phillips of the record-setting relay. "I just kicked it in and kept going.

"It's great because we've been working very hard every day at practice. And we have to keep working hard if we want to go to states (in five weeks) and win."

Beth Wagner won three events for North -- the 100 hurdles (16.91), 300 hurdles (49.19) and high jump (5 feet, 2 inches).

"We're feeling good. Everyone's healthy," Wagner said. "We're still just conditioning, but everyone's times are dropping. Not to jinx it, but I think we'll do well at states."

In other noteworthy news for the North girls, Raven Jackson placed third in the triple jump (behind two Carlisle girls) at 35-1 3/4, the best mark in the area this spring, and Alison Harrell cracked the 12-minute barrier for the first time in the 3,200, placing third in 11:47.96.

Smithsburg's Jonelle Jerwick was the county's only other girls champion. She won the pole vault at 9-6.

In boys' action, North's Dominic Sink won the pole vault at 14-0, prevailing over James Buchanan's Nathaniel Witter (13-0) in a showdown between two of the Tri-State's all-time greats.

"I just came out of my slump," Sink said. "That's the first time I cleared 14 in about a month."

Earlier this year, Sink set the county record at 14-4, while Witter jumped 14-7, just an inch short of the Tri-State record.

"I came out and did what I had to do. Things fell into place for me, and I guess things just didn't fall into place for him," Sink said. "I was looking for more, but my knee has been giving me all sorts of trouble."

Also for North, Anthony Winter placed first in the 100 (11.25), second in the 200 (22.85) and third in the shot put (42-11 1/2).

For South Hagerstown, Eric Davis, Xavier Richardson, Seth Ofusu-Ameyaw and Jordan Alston won the 4x200 in a season-best time of 1:32.30.

For Smithsburg, David Wilson won the 1,600 (4:25.67) and Sawyer Gardenhour won the quadathlon (long jump, shot put, discus, 800).

Brunswick edged James Buchanan 108-103 for the boys team title.
