Telethon raises more than $38,000 for parent-child center

April 24, 2010

A telethon held Saturday for the Parent-Child Center in Hagerstown raised $38,077, Executive Director Millie Lowman said.

The three-hour event was held at Valley Mall and televised by WHAG-TV.

The amount raised surpassed the center's goal as well as last year's total of $37,250, Lowman said.

"I think with the economy the way that it is, we were thrilled to see such a good total," she said.

The money raised will go to support the center's child abuse prevention and other family resource programs, Lowman said.

The telethon, the organization's 21st, included information about recognizing and reporting child abuse, interspersed with performances by a magician, balloon sculptor, singers and musicians, she said.
