HAGERSTOWN -- Thursday's girls lacrosse game at Mike Callas Stadium was pretty simple: Middletown scored early and often and kept North Hagerstown from scoring at all in a 22-0 victory.

The Knights (6-1) made full use of all its weapons against the Hubs (1-6), as nine different players scored.

Hannah Linthicum had five goals, while Brittain Altomare added four goals for Middletown. Sammi Barbeito and Kati Rothenhoefer each had three, Julia Karcewski and Kelly Murphy each had two and Meredith Watts, Taylor Altomare and Erin Wein added a goal each.

"I thought we passed well and we worked well on our transition," Middletown coach Dawn Rothenhoefer said. "We worked on our settled attack. All of that comes from the defense. That gets the offense going. ... Our defense worked well and we had some good defensive slides. Overall, we had about eight interceptions. They were anticipating well, which causes the interceptions."

North Hagerstown coach Katie Eck was pleased with the Hubs' perseverance.

"Obviously, it was a rough game," Eck said. "Middletown has very good stick skills. My girls never gave up. We did some things that we worked on in practice, so I'm happy with that."

Middletown came out aggressively, scoring three goals during the first 4:30. Shortly thereafter, Karcewski netted a pair of goals to push the Knights' lead to 5-0 with 15:11 remaining in the first half.

Barbeito scored two of the Knights' next three goals to extend the Knights' lead to 8-0 on the way to a 13-0 halftime advantage.

Middletown also dominated North 19-3 in the JV game.
