Souza leads Suns past BlueClaws

LAKEWOOD, N.J. -- Steven Souza went 3-for-4 with a home run, three RBIs and four runs scored to lead the Hagerstown Suns to a 12-7 win over the Lakewood BlueClaws on Wednesday night.

Souza's two-run homer highlighted Hagerstown's five-run second inning as the Suns built an early 7-0 lead against Lakewood starter Brady Colvin (0-3), who lasted only 1 1/3 innings.

Hagerstown led 7-3 after three innings, 9-6 after four and 11-7 after five.

Francisco Soriano had two hits, including a triple, and three RBIs for the Suns, while J.P Ramirez also had three RBIs, Destin Hood had two RBIs and Jeff Kobernus added two hits in the victory.

Paul Applebee (1-0), who relieved Suns starter Jack McGeary in the fourth inning, pitched four innings for the victory. Applebee allowed one run, one hit and three walks, while striking out five.
