Way to go, Sophie



Sophie Butts, a third-grader at Hickory Elementary School, and grand-daughter of Betty Munn, was quite successful for her school fundraisers.

Sophie, a student in Mrs. Cox's class at Hickory, was the top fundraiser for her school for both Wolfgang fundraisers this year. Many congrats to you, Sophie, on a job well done.

Parents of Washington County students, please be sure to note the following on your calendar: Washington County Public Schools will be closing 2 1/2 hours early Friday. This will mark the end of the fifth marking period for students in secondary schools.

Parent/Child Center event



The Parent/Child Center Telethon is scheduled Saturday from noon to 3 p.m. in The Herald-Mail Food Court at Valley Mall.

Autism Awareness Night



A fundraiser will be held at Chick-fil-A Monday from 5 to 8 p.m. for autism awareness.

It will be an opportunity to find out information about autism.

Bingo bonanza



A bingo bonanza is planned Sunday, June 6, at the Volunteer Fire Co. of Halfway'ssocial hall on Lexington Avenue in Halfway.

Tickets cost $50 per person, which includes meal and 12 bingo cards. Twenty games of bingo will be offered with a payout of $500. Doors will open at 10 a.m., lunch will be served from 11:30 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. and bingo will start at 1. Extra bingo games will be offered the day of the event. It will be by reserved seats only. To buy tickets, call 301-582-2888 (leave message).

Motorcycle ride planned for May 23



A motorcycle benefit ride is planned for Josh Forsythe, a Williamsport High School student battling cancer.

The ridewill be Sunday, May 23. The cost to participate is $15 for drivers and $5 for passengers. The ride begins at 1 p.m. at the Red Men Lodge in Williamsport.

Riders will returnfrom the ride between 4 and 4:30 p.m. with dinner to follow at 5 p.m. at the Red Men (dinner is included in cost of ride). Separate tickets are available to those who would just like to have dinner without participating in the ride. Tickets for dinner only cost $10 per person.
