St. Andrew's Church celebrates milestones

April 22, 2010

St. Andrew's United Methodist Church, at 1020 Maryland Ave., is celebrating several milestones this year.

The church has been at its present location for 50 years and has been an organized church in Hagerstown for 95 years.

The church was formerly known as Howard Street Methodist Church and was at the corner of Howard and Chestnut streets.

Using the theme "Honor the Past, Celebrate the Present and Imagine the Future," the church kicked off its celebration April 18 with a special church service with the Bell Choir, the Heavenly Kreations Children's Choir and the Adult Choir all participating.

Following the service, a gourmet meal was served.

John and Carol Weibel and Sue Rudisell were instrumental in organizing and preparing much of the food.

Several videos were shown for the members to view and lots of scrapbooks were on display, which gave everyone a chance to reminisce about the church's past.

Other events are planned for the coming months. Former pastors and members will be invited to join in the fellowship.
