Rosenthal fans 20 but Gaels can't hold lead in loss

Caroline Rosenthal struck out a career-high 20, but St. Maria Goretti couldn't hold on to a 6-1 second-inning lead in an eight-inning 7-6 loss to Maryland School for the Deaf on Tuesday.

Emma Bartholomew, Colleen Costello and Cassie Rzomp had two hits each for the Gaels (1-7).

Alan Mocahbee and Ryan LaRose each had two hits for the Applemen, who scored seven runs in the sixth inning to erase a 7-4 deficit.

SAINT JAMES -- Jamie Peterson had a goal and an assist for Saint James, which fell behind early and lost a Mid-Atlantic Conference match to Potomac School.

The Saints (9-2, 3-1) trailed 4-1 after one quarter and 7-2 at the half. Ryan Doyle and Andrew Ludwick had one goal each, while goalkeeper Tommy Wagner made 11 saves.
