Trip down memory lane

It's the event the town has been waiting for. "American Bandstand" will be revisited Saturday from 7 to 11 p.m. at Springfield Farm Barn.

Elvis (Rod Newlin) and Patti Robinson will serenade with many of Elvis' favorite love songs. R&H Entertainment will be spinning favorite dance music from the 1950s and '60s. Enjoy dancing, the Stroll, and Bandstand's Name that Song Contest.

Tickets cost $1 per person at the door.

Refreshments will be available for purchase.

Pancake breakfast

Downsville Ruritan will hold its last pancake breakfast until the fall Saturday from 7 to 11 a.m. at the Downsville Community Building (the old schoolhouse).


The menu includes all-you-can-eat pancakes, sausage, sausage gravy, scrambled eggs, puddin', orange juice and coffee.

Tickets cost $5.50 for adults and $3.50 for those ages 6 to 12. It is free for those 5 and younger.

Springfield Middle School plans events

The eighth-grade Drama Class will present Disney's "High School Musical" Friday at 7 p.m.

Tickets cost $5 in advance and $7 at the door.

On Saturday, a spaghetti dinner will be served before the play.

The dinner starts at 5:30 p.m. and the show is at 7. Tickets for both events cost $10.

Happy birthday

Here's a belated happy birthday to Wanda Whipp and Goldie Brown - best friends born on the same day, April 20.

Summer exercise classes scheduled

The Washington County Recreation Department is offering two fitness classes at 4-Star Fitness Center, Milestone Terrace, taught by certified instructor Donna Gamble.

"Exercise in Williamsport" is a moderately paced STEP class. Participants will benefit from strength training, stretching and floor work for a well-rounded program. Class will be held Mondays and Wednesdays, May 10 through Aug. 11, 7:15 to 8:15 p.m.

The "Total Fitness Workout" is an hour of low-impact aerobics. Adults of any age define a personal workout to suit their fitness needs. Participants will improve flexibility and learn toning techniques. Daytime classes are Tuesdays and Thursdays, May 11 through Aug. 12, 10 to 11 a.m. Evening classes are Mondays and Wednesdays, May 10 through Aug. 11, 6 to 7 p.m.

Cost is $45 for county residents; $55 for nonresident; and $36 for senior citizens (55 and older). Call 240-313-2805 for registration information or go to Look for Spring/Summer Recreation Programs.

Annual auction to benefit school

Ebenezer Christian School, 17618 Virginia Ave., will hold its annual auction Thursday, April 29, at 6 p.m. Items for auction include furniture, vacations/getaways, gift certificates to local businesses, household items and crafts.
