Catoctin, Cunningham Falls parks announce Junior Ranger Camp

THURMONT, Md. - Catoctin Mountain Park and Cunningham Falls State Park will hold the 2010 Joint Junior Ranger Camp in June.

The two separate two-day sessions will be held for ages 6 to 8 and 9 to 11. Each session consists of a three-hour day led by National Park Rangers in Catoctin Mountain Park and a second three-hour day with state park naturalists at Cunningham Falls State Park.

The first session for 9 to 11-year-olds will be June 15 and 19.

The first session for 6 to 8-year-olds will be June 20 and 22.

The program will be from 9 a.m. to noon each day. Participants are encouraged to attend both days. Additional sessions will follow in July and August.

Participation is limited to 24 students per session. Advance registration is required. A fee of $10 per child will be collected by the Catoctin Forest Alliance, a nonprofit organization dedicated to the support of both parks.

The park visitor center, located on Md. 77 three miles west of Thurmont, is open daily from 10 a.m. until 4:30 p.m., and from 8:30 a.m. until 5 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays.
