Moss' two-hitter leads Gaels

McCONNELLSBURG, Pa. -- Ian Moss pitched a two-hitter to earn his first win of the year, while Nic Martin had three hits as St. Maria Goretti defeated McConnellsburg 6-2 on Saturday.

Aaron Wilkinson had two hits and Jay Donoghue added two RBIs for the Gaels (4-10).

HEDGESVILLE, W.Va. -- Steven Miele had three hits -- including a home run -- and three RBIs, while Jason Mayles struck out 13 in six innings in the opener of the Eagles' doubleheader sweep of Keyser.

Phillip Longnecker went 4-for-4 for Hedgesville (9-10) in Game 1, while Robby Cicchino had two hits and Jonathan Coulter and Zach Layhew added two RBIs each.

Huey Hite paced the Eagles in their five-inning Game 2 victory with three hits and two RBIs, while Longnecker, Michael Hite and Ajay Chenoweth added two hits and two RBIs each and Ryan Palermo had two hits.

Caroline Rosenthal pitched a four-hitter with 13 strikeouts for the Gaels in Game 1 of their doubleheader split with the Panthers (7-5).

Colleen Costello had three hits and Emily Steiner added two hits in Goretti's opening win.

Rosenthal struck out 10 and Colleen McCauley hit an RBI double for the Gaels (1-6) in Game 2.
