Woman charged with child neglect

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. --A 24-year-old Martinsburg woman was charged with child neglect creating risk of injury after leaving a child alone in a vehicle at Walmart in Spring Mills, according to Berkeley County Magistrate Court records.

Jennifer Brooke Richards, of 648 W. Martin St., was arraigned Friday by Magistrate W. Randy Smith, according to court records.

Richards told police she left the child alone for about five minutes, according to a complaint filed by Berkeley County Sheriff's Deputy J. Jones.

A caller reported the child was alone at 11:16 p.m. outside the Walmart off Hammonds Mill Road, then later reported the child's mother had returned to the vehicle at 11:30 p.m., according to court records.


Richards told authorities the child left in the vehicle was 3 years old and that she took her 1 year old with her into the store, according to court records.

Man faces drug charges

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. --A Martinsburg man was in Eastern Regional Jail on Friday after police seized nine bags of crack cocaine, a digital scale and $209 in cash from his apartment Thursday evening, according to jail and Berkeley County Magistrate Court records.

Terry Lee Condrey, 38, of 213 N. Raleigh St., Apt. 1, was arraigned Thursday night on one count of possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance by Magistrate Sandra L. Miller, according to court records.

A search warrant of the apartment on Thursday was executed by members of the Eastern Panhandle Drug and Violent Crime Task Force and Martinsburg Police Department, according to a complaint filed with the court by Martinsburg Police Patrolman S.A. Shelton.

Task Force officers had conducted "several" controlled purchases of crack cocaine from the defendant and police also recovered a $100 in recorded currency that was used in a drug deal orchestrated by police, according to court records.
