Economic Development Commission

The Hagerstown-Washington County Economic Development Commission (EDC) will honor the local business and industrial community at Celebration of Business 2010.

The invitation-only event will be Tuesday at Fountain Head Country Club. The event will begin at 6 p.m. with a VIP reception hosted by Keller-Stonebraker Insurance Inc., followed by dinner and the program.

The keynote speaker will be retired United States Coast Guard Capt. Judith Keene.

Keene is a 1977 graduate of North Hagerstown High School who entered the U.S. Coast Guard Academy after graduation. During her 27-year career, she served in a variety of assignments, including becoming the 31st Commandant of Cadets at the U.S. Coast Guard Academy. She was the first woman assigned to that position.

Dominick Murray, deputy secretary of the Maryland Department of Business and Economic Development, will help the EDC honor the attendees as well as more than 30 businesses that have reached milestones in their number of years of conducting business in Washington County.


Tuscarora Area Chamber of Commerce

MERCERSBURG, Pa. - The Tuscarora Area Chamber of Commerce will sponsor Career and College Night May 4 from 6 to 8:30 p.m. at James Buchanan High School.

Mary-Anne Gordon, executive director of the Chamber, and Lee Ann Witter-Keefer, a teacher at James Buchanan, are coordinating the event.

More than 20 colleges, universities and branches of the military and more than 20 local and regional businesses will participate. The event is designed for James Buchanan students and their families to explore college and career possibilities and opportunities.

The event is being held in conjunction with "Arts in Action" the same night at the high school.

Business vendors still are being accepted for the event.

Fulton Financial Services Corp.

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - The board of directors of Franklin Financial Services Corp. declared a 27-cent-per-share regular quarterly dividend for the second quarter of 2010.

Total regular cash dividends paid during the first two quarters of 2010 will be 54 cents per share, matching the per-share cash dividend paid during the same period in 2009.

The second quarter cash dividend will be paid May 28 to shareholders of record at the close of business on May 7.
