Blankley to speak at GOP gathering Monday in county

Author Tony Blankley is to be the featured speaker at the Washington County Republican Central Committee's Lincoln-Reagan Dinner Monday.

Tickets for the event, which begins at 6 p.m. at Fountain Head Country Club, cost $50.

Blankley served for seven years as press secretary to then-Speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives, Newt Gingrich.

Blankley previously was a speechwriter and senior policy analyst for President Reagan.

After leaving Gingrich's office in February 1997, Blankley joined the staff of John F. Kennedy Jr.'s George magazine. As a contributing editor, Blankley's monthly column, "Between the Lines," featured his inside-the-beltway insights.

He appears regularly on CNN's "Late Edition" with Wolf Blitzer, as well as on MSNBC's "Hardball" with Chris Matthews, "Rivera Live," and other programs.

In June 1999, Blankley joined The Washington Times as a weekly political columnist. In June 2002, he was named the newspaper's editorial page editor.
