April 16: Evening in Hancock, a fundraiser for the Hancock Arts Council. Park-n-Dine restaurant, 189 E. Main St. Dinner from 6 to 7 p.m. Entertainment at 7 p.m. includes blues musician Ben Anderson, The River Run Blues Band, musician and Dr. Matt Hahn, musicians Ryland Swain and William Lotts, and Ann Knox reading poetry from her book, "Reading the Tao at 80." $30 per person. April 17 and 18: Sanctioned soapbox derby rally, High Street in front of Town Hall. Registration at 7 a.m.; races begin at 9 a.m. Call 301-988-2776.

April 17, 24 and May 1, 8 and 15: Farmers market at Joseph Hancock Park on West Main Street, 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.


April 19: Hancock mayor and Town Council work session on the budget, Town Hall, 6:15 p.m. This is a tentative date. Call Town Hall at 301-678-5622.

April 20, 27 and May 4 and 11: Hancock Rotary Club meeting, Park-n-Dine, 12:30 p.m.

April 20 and May 18: Big Pool Ruritan Club meeting, Big Pool Community Building, 6:30 p.m.

April 21, 28 and May 5 and 12: Preschool story time, Hancock Library, 1 to 1:45 p.m. For ages 3 to 5. Stories, songs and a simple craft.

April 26 and May 10: Hancock Lioness Club meeting, Hancock Truck Plaza, 6 p.m.

April 26 and May 10: Hancock Lions Club meeting, Park-n-Dine, 6:30 p.m.

April 28 and May 12: Lego Building Club, Hancock Library, 4 p.m.

April 29: Tri-State Community Health Center is holding a community public focus group meeting, Town Hall meeting room, 6:30 to 8 p.m. The meeting is to help the center determine what services are needed in the area for its strategic planning and to raise awareness of the health center, which serves the uninsured and insured. April 30: Health fair, Tri-State Community Health Center, 130 W. High St., 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Free. Screenings available for breast cancer, vision, hearing, blood pressure and BMI. Everyone who does all the screenings gets a chance to win a Wii console and Wii fitness game. More than 30 vendors, including health organizations from Maryland, Pennsylvania, West Virginia and Virginia. Door prizes. Shriners will be riding little cars and have info about Shriners Hospitals for Children.

May 1: Breakfast in the Park fundraiser for Hancock Lions Club, Lions Club pavilion at Widmeyer Park, 7 to 10 a.m., $6.

May 3: Hancock Volunteer Fire Co. monthly membership meeting, fire hall at 3 Fulton St., 7 p.m.

May 8: Chicken barbecue fundraiser for Hancock Lions Club, West Main Street east of Sheetz, 10 a.m. until sold out.

May 11: Hancock Rescue Squad monthly membership meeting, rescue squad building at 6 E. Main St., 7 p.m.

May 11: Hancock in Motion meeting, Hancock Community Center, 7 p.m.

May 12: Hancock Town Council meeting, Town Hall, 7 p.m.
