Hubert Aldine "Hugh" Brandenburg, 85, of 500 Northern Ave., Hagerstown, Md., passed away Monday, April 12, 2010, at Western Maryland Hospital Center, Hagerstown.

Born Friday, March 6, 1925, in Hagerstown, he was the son of the late Clay K. Brandenburg and Eleanor Stine Brandenburg.

He graduated in 1943 from Hagerstown High School, and went on to receive his bachelor of arts degree from Gettysburg College and his master's degree from the University of Texas.

For most of his life, he was employed as a professor at several universities.

He was a member of Phi Sigma Kappa fraternity and Trinity Lutheran Church, and especially loved his volunteer work at Western Maryland Hospital.

In 1998, he received the Washington County Most Wonderful Person Award.

He is survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his brother, Rowland Brandenburg.

Services will be Friday, April 16, 2010, at 11 a.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church, 15 Randolph Ave., Hagerstown, with the Rev. Eric A. Norgard officiating.

Family will receive friends at Douglas A. Fiery Funeral Home, 1331 Eastern Blvd. North, Hagerstown, from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, April 15.

Interment will be in Rest Haven Cemetery, Hagerstown.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Western Maryland Hospital Center, 1500 Pennsylvania Ave., Hagerstown, MD 21742.
