MARTINSBURG, W.Va. -- Local daredevil food competitor Steven R. Weiss will appear on Food Network's "Challenge: Sugar Impossible," his fourth appearance on a Food Network show.

The show's producers say the episode will air 8 p.m. Sunday, April 18 on the Food Network.

Weiss, 44, is the Hospitality and Culinary Arts Program coordinator for Blue Ridge Community and Technical College in downtown Martinsburg, W.Va. He considers himself to be a "daredevil food" competitor. When he's not teaching classes , he is putting his background in visual arts and sculpture to use in food competitions.

In the "Challenge" series, teams of chefs face off in food battles for cash prizes.

In the "Sugar Impossible" episode, the "impossible" mission was to create a moving, 4-foot high, science-fiction scene entirely out of sugar.

A $10,000 prize was at stake.

Weiss worked with former colleague, Cliff Butler, who's now an executive pastry chef in Louisiana. He wouldn't say whether his team won because he said producers prohibited contestants from discussing the outcome of the show or what happened behind the scenes.

"We did very well," Weiss said.

Weiss did say that his team did face a setback during the competition, which he said led to some last-minute scrambling but wasn't at liberty to elaborate, except to say that it "adds drama."
