Discovery Station to be closed in preparation for fundraiser

Discovery Station at Hagerstown will be closed Thursday and Friday in preparation for its Titanic Casino Evening on Friday, April 16, said B. Marie Byers, the organization's president.

The Titanic Casino Evening event begins at 6 p.m. It will benefit the Parent Child Center, children at risk and Discovery Station's three new exhibits, Byers said.

The gala includes a casino with board games, Trivial Pursuit and bingo.

There will be a cocktail buffet with beverage bar, along with 50/50 cash raffles.

The event includes a silent and live auction. Some of the items to be auctioned include tickets to Washington Nationals and Baltimore Orioles baseball games, an original watercolor by Bob Wantz, rounds of golf, Longaberger baskets, a Sunset Beach House week's stay, pottery bowls and other items.

Tickets cost $35 per person and $60 per couple, and the price includes $50 per person in "Discovery Station Funny Money." Checks, cash, Visa and Mastercard will be accepted.

o On Saturday, former CIA agent Tony Mendez will present the Saturday Plus program and will sign copies of his books "Master of Disguise" and "Spy Dust." The program begins at 2 p.m.
