Dorothy D. Oyster, 95, of Loyalton of Hagerstown, 20009 Rosebank Way, and formerly of Kent Island, Stevensville, Md., died peacefully April 8, 2010, at Loyalton.

Born Jan. 6, 1915, in Washington, D.C., she was the daughter of the late Mable and Arthur J. Dinger.

She was the wife of the late Thomas G. Oyster, who died in December 2008, to whom she was married for 74 long and happy years.

She was a graduate of Central High School and Marjorie Webster Finishing School, both in Washington, D.C.

She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great- and great-great-grandmother. She enjoyed cooking, gardening and traveling, and her many friends and family members.

She was a past member of Mount Zion Methodist Church in Highland, Md.

Besides her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by one brother, Edward J. Dinger of Wheaton, Md.; a granddaughter, Karen Lynn Oyster-Moats of Hagerstown; and a son-in-law, George Simpson of Simpsonville, Md.

Survivors include two daughters, Suzanne O. Simpson of Palmetto, Fla., and Judy O. Lewis and husband, Jack, of Lexington, S.C.; two sons, Dr. A. Thomas Oyster and wife, Barbara, of Hagerstown, and Richard A. Oyster of Mebane, N.C.; 11 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and seven great-great-grandchildren.

Her interment will be in Arlington National Cemetery in Arlington, Va.

A memorial service will be Sunday, April 25, 2010, at 12:30 p.m. at Douglas A. Fiery Funeral Home, 1331 Eastern Blvd. North, Hagerstown, with the Rev. Patrick Ricker officiating.
