MAUGANSVILLE -- Washington County Emergency Services received a call around 10:15 a.m. Tuesday for a vehicle into a house at Garden View Road and Maugansville Road, a 911 dispatcher said.

Maugansville Volunteer Fire Co. Chief Bill Garrett said a PT Cruiser was driven into the front of a house at 17944 Garden View Road in Maugansville, northwest of Hagerstown.

He said authorities believe a man who was driving the vehicle had a medical emergency that led to the crash.

The impact took about a 5-inch high by 2-foot wide chunk out of the siding on the front of the house.

The PT Cruiser was towed from the scene.

Tasha Spitzer, who lives in the two-story house, said she was off from work and sleeping in when the car struck the house.

" I was wondering whether I was dreaming. I wasn't fully alert," she said. But, she said, "I needed to get up anyhow."

Garrett said Allegheny Power was called to turn off electricity, but the utility workers weren't needed.

A building inspector was called to make sure the house was structurally sound.

"I think it is" sound, Garrett said. "We just called the building inspector as a precaution."
