Raymond William Hahne, 92, of Hagerstown, Md., passed away Friday, April 9, 2010, at his home surrounded by his loving family.

Born Sept. 27, 1917, in Cumberland, Md., he was the son of the late Edward R. and Pearl Breighner Hahne.

Mr. Hahne served with the U.S. Navy during World War II.

Mr. Hahne was employed with the Potomac Edison Co. in Cumberland and Hagerstown for more than 45 years.

He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church.

Mr. Hahne was actively involved with many community and fraterual organizations. For many years, he was general superintendent and a member of the church council at St. John's Lutheran Church in Cumberland.

He was past chairman and member of the advisory board of The Salvation Army in Hagerstown. Mr. Hahne had been a member of the area Agency on Aging Advisory Council of the Washington County Commission on Aging. He also served as a member of the Budget and Admissions Committee of the Washington County United Way. He served as a member of the United States Selective Service System Board No. 27 in Cumberland. He served as a neighborhood commissioner and assistant district commissioner for the Boy Scouts of America, Potomac Council, in Cumberland.


Mr. Hahne was a member and past master of Potomac Lodge No. 100 AF&AM in Cumberland. He was a 33rd Degree Scottish Rite Mason of the Cumberland Consistory and a member of the Royal Order of Scotland. Mr. Hahne also belonged to Hagerstown Forest No. 95 of the Tall Cedars of Lebanon. He was a member and past potentate of the Ali Ghan Shrine in Cumberland, and member of the Hagerstown, Eastern Panhandle and Waynesboro Shrine Clubs. Mr. Hahne was a member of the Oriental Band, Legion of Honor, Past Masters, Sayara Units, Order of Quetzalcoatl, Guardian Teocal No. 30 of Ali Ghan Shrine and a member of McKinley Chapter No. 12, Order of the Eastern Star.

He also was a member of Elks Lodge No. 378, Morris Frock American Legion Post No. 42 and the Loyal Order of Moose.

He was the husband of Norma Green Hahne, whom he married on June 8, 1946. He is also survived by one son, Gary R. Hahne and wife, Chris, of Williamsport, Md.; sister-in-law, Maxine Howe; niece, Dr. Dolores Howe, and nephew, Lynn A. Howe, all of Pensacola, Fla.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, May 1, 2010, at 2 p.m. at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown. The Rev. Eric A. Norgard will officiate. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery at the convenience of the family.

The family will receive friends Saturday, May 1, 2010, at the funeral home one hour prior to the service.
