MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - Thomas Y. Engle, 92, of Martinsburg, died Monday, April 12, 2010, at the VA Medical Center.
Born Aug. 30, 1917, in Martinsburg, W.Va., he was the son of the late Peyton W. and Mary Blanche Youtz Engle.
He was a member of Hedgesville United Methodist Church.
Mr. Engle was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving in World War II, was a member and past president of the FOP Lodge 83, and a member of Martinsburg Lions Club.
He was known for originating the local "Shop with a Cop" program, Law Enforcement Appreciation Day, and was an active volunteer with the Martinsburg Alzheimer's Association.
He retired as an investigator with the Cumberland Division of the B & O Railroad Police.
He is survived by his wife, Madalyne Harrell Langdon; one son, Brian K. Engle and wife, Gail, of Newport News, Va.; one daughter, Tomi Mosse and husband, Max, of Martinsburg; three grandchildren, Dina Mosse Edwards of Martinsburg, Andrea Mosse Brown of Oklahoma City, Okla., and Heather Mosse Pleasants of Hedgesville; and six great-grandchildren. He is also survived by three stepchildren, John Blackburn of Kennewick, Wash., Bill Blackburn and wife, Elizabeth, of Martinsburg, and Jane Couser and husband, Eric, of Gerrardstown.
