Volvo Powertrain, at 13302 Pennsylvania Ave. in Hagerstown, presented the Humane Society of Washington County with 600 pounds of Pedigree puppy food on March 30. The puppy food was donated by employees during a companywide collection to help the shelter provide for incoming puppies during the busy spring season.

Dale Williams, an employee at Volvo Powertrain, transported the food to the shelter. "Everyone was really excited to help. The company promoted the collection by running information about the shelter's need for puppy food on the closed-circuit TV system," Williams said.

The donation came as a response to the shelter's pleas for puppy food a few weeks ago.

"So many members of the community have generously donated food and toys for our youngest residents. We are so grateful and appreciative for everything we've received," said Paul Miller, the shelter's executive director.

The Humane Society is at 13011 Maugansville Road in Hagerstown. Call 301-733-2060 or go to http://www.hswcmd.org for information on animal-related issues, directions to the shelter and information about programs and services.
