Two Rockland Woods teachers receive grants

April 12, 2010

Two teachers from Rockland Woods Elementary School won educational foundation grants for their projects.

Tiffany Miles created Backpack Buddies to help English language learners become better readers of English.

Miles has been working as an ELL teacher for the past seven years, including two in the county. She co-teaches a class called the "ABCs of Reading: What's Different About Teaching Reading to ELLs?"

Tameron Marriner has been a teacher in Washington County for 21 years. Five years ago, she received a technology package from the county that sparked her interest in using technology in the classroom.

The grant she received will be used to advance the technology at Rockland Woods through the use of Dual Pen Promethean software for interactive boards. Marriner sees technology as one way teachers can meet the diverse learning needs of their students.
