Hose resigns from Hancock basketball

April 11, 2010|From staff reports

Hancock became the fourth Washington County school to undergo a change in the boys basketball coaching ranks on Friday.

Athletic director Bill Sterner said that Ron Hose, the Panthers' coach since the 2006-07 season, had submitted his resignation.

"He told the kids after the Fort Hill playoff game he thought that was finished," Sterner said. "Then he told me he wanted to wait, but he works really hard with the little league up here, and once that started I think he realized that was it."

Hose succeeded Jeff Spielman, who had retired from coaching boys basketball after the 2004-05 season, the last winning season at Hancock when it went 20-4.

In the years since, Hancock basketball teams have gone 25-86.

Clear Spring and Boonsboro filled their coaching vacancies less than a week apart. St. Maria Goretti's position is still open.
