Crawdads' rally punishes Suns

HAGERSTOWN -- Hickory broke open a close game with five runs in the seventh and capped it off with three runs in the eighth on Saturday to take a 10-1 victory over the Hagerstown Suns at Municipal Stadium.

The Crawdads (2-1) unloaded on Suns reliever Glenn Gibson with the first four batters in the inning reaching on singles. Jared Prince and Edwin Garcia hit conventional shots followed by a bunt hit by Leury Garcia to load the bases.

Joseph Bonadonna hit a two-run single to chase Gibson and give Hickory a 4-1 lead.

Patrick Arnold came on for Hagerstown and walked Vinnie DiFazio to reload the bases. A Miguel Velazquez grounder and a two-run single by Cristian Santana capped the inning.

DiFazio launched a three-run home run in the eighth.

The Suns took a 1-0 lead in the first as Eury Perez drew a leadoff walk against Hickory starter Wilmer Font. Francisco Soriano singled to move Perez to third before Steven Souza grounded out to score the run.

Hickory took a 2-1 lead in the fifth inning on an RBI single by Jared Prince and run-scoring double by Edwin Garcia off Suns starter Trevor Holder.
