William H. Demuth

QUINCY, Pa. - William H. Demuth passed away Friday, April 9, 2010, at Quincy Village.

Born Aug. 19, 1922, in Waynesboro, Pa., to Mildred Slothower Demuth and William "Henry" Demuth, Bill grew up in Waynesboro, graduating from Washington Township High School in 1940.

Bill served in the 85th Infantry in World War II, and remained active in the organization throughout his life.

He graduated from Elizabethtown College (1949), where he met his wife of 62 years, Doris Witter Demuth.

Bill worked for the federal government throughout his career, retiring from Letterkenny Army Depot in 1977.

He enjoyed traveling the nation and overseas, both as part of his work and for leisure. Bill also enjoyed singing with barbershop groups.

He is survived by his wife; one son, Jack B. Demuth and his wife, Barbara R. Demuth; one daughter, Barbara D. Bernstein and her husband, Stuart D. Bernstein; along with his sister, Martha Strite. Bill had three grandchildren, Jennifer Hege Demuth (deceased), Charlie Bernstein and Jacob Bernstein.


A memorial service will be held at the family's discretion. Bill's remains will be interred in Indiantown Gap National Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Lutheran Home Care and Hospice Inc. or Brethren Fellowship of Chambersburg, Pa., where he worshiped.
