BIG POOL - Sherman Burton Jr., 74, of Indian Springs Road, died Thursday, April 8, 2010, at his home.

Born June 9, 1935, in Parkhead, Md., he was the son of the late Sherman S. Burton Sr. and Grace Viola Walls Burton.

He was the husband of Judith A. Keefer Burton of Big Pool, whom he married Feb. 12, 1993, in Hagerstown, Md.

He was of the Protestant faith.

He was a member of the Brotherhood of Maintenance of Way.

He was retired from Western Maryland Railroad, where he held positions as chauffer, welder and trackman.

Besides his wife, he is survived by one son, Jeffrey W. Burton of Clear Spring, Md.; one sister, Joann Price of Hancock, Md.; and one brother, Robert Lee Burton of Hagerstown. Also surviving are one step-grandson, two nieces and two nephews, six great-nieces, two great-nephews, and one special great-great-nephew, Gregory Lynn Golden III.


Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister, Naomi Burton, and one brother, Marvin L. Burton.

Funeral services will be Monday, April 12, 2010, at 11 a.m. at the Parkhead United Methodist Church. Pastor Jeff Anthony and Chaplain Sally Maxwell will officiate. Burial will be in Parkhead Cemetery.

The family will receive friends Sunday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. at Grove Funeral Home, 141 W. Main St., Hancock, and at the church one half-hour prior to services Monday.
