"I would like to thank the lady that found my father on Chestnut Grove Road in the yard. Thank you very much for helping him. We got him to the hospital then, and he broke his hip, and we do really appreciate ... what she did for us. So thanks again." - Hagerstown

"I would like to see President Obama get involved with the child support, or rather the lack of it, by absent parents. Do you realize how much money could be saved locally, state and federal, if payers would pay their child support? Make it more of a rigid problem for those who do not pay." - Hagerstown

"I'm looking at 'What's wrong with this picture?', namely, the drain in the alley between Baltimore and Lee streets. Something is a little wrong, but not a lot. The city is and will be unable to fix everything, especially in these tough economic times. The paper should only focus on the big problems." - Hagerstown

"I saw something interesting as I was walking by the BOE. There was an armored car pulling into the building. I smiled and wondered if they were delivering our tax money, or was it picking up a load to take to the bank." - Smithsburg

"As a former U.S. Marine, I cannot believe what I read, where someone says the difference between the first year for President Obama and the first year for President Bush. Did you forget the USS Cole, where they just killed our sailors? Did you forget where they took a vehicle borne with bombs and blew up 320-some Marines in Beirut? Don't you remember? You keep forgetting what they did to us at the Pentagon, Shanksville and the World Trade Center? I just can't believe how easy people forget." - Hagerstown

"How many times must The Herald-Mail paper run a paper concerning the McConnellsburg medical center getting a new equipment for their facility over there? I seen a picture in The Herald-Mail paper last week, and I seen a picture concerning the same equipment in The Herald-Mail paper Sunday. I mean, how many times must your paper run a picture concerning the Fulton County Medical Center of McConnellsburg getting a new equipment? There's other pictures out there." - Greencastle, Pa.

"It is quite unfortunate for the town of Smithsburg that the mayor's position is running as unopposed, once again." - Smithsburg

"Here we go again. Washington County Commissioners and the water department, they want to raise water and sewer rates again. I don't know where they expect to get the money. People don't have work. The unemployment rate is up to over 10 percent here in Washington County, but now they're charging - they're like the oil companies. Oil goes up when you use it, the oil prices goes up when you don't use it. The water department's saying people's not using the water, so now the revenue's down." - Hagerstown

"The person in Brightwood Acres who says they should raise the price of gas and tax it, why don't you pay extra out of your bank account and give up your cars and your driving if you think everybody should have to pay all this extra tax on gas? Why don't you do that and lead the group?" - Hagerstown

"I live at the Mount Aetna turnabout. This truck wakes me up, it makes me jump every morning between 4 and 4:15, when he comes roaring through here like a bat out of hell. My husband thinks it's a milk truck." - Mount Aetna Road

"We had another Saturday night of trying to fall asleep to drum beats ... here in Halfway. It goes on past 1 a.m. Isn't there anything we can do about it? It can be heard for several blocks around here, and it's not just us that it's bothering. There are others that have spoken about how it bothers them, too, especially now since we can have our windows open at night." - Halfway

"Thomas Jefferson once said democracy will cease to exist when you take away from those who are willing to work and give to those who would not. I predict future happiness for Americans if they can prevent the government from wasting the labors of the people under the pretense of taking care of them." - Boonsboro

"I like the postings in the paper with recent and total deaths from the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. It would be good to put this on the front page, though, so it would have more of an impact. Also, maybe some statistics on civilian casualties as well. We almost live with blindfolds on over here in our relatively peaceful daily lives." - Hancock

"I'm calling regarding the person from Dargan who's ripping people who receive Social Security. I do not know how old the gentleman or person may be, but when they reach retirement age, I want to see them live on $759 a month, pay rent, insurance, phone bill - which is a need - etc., etc. I paid in to Social Security since I was the age of 13 years old, so therefore, I do not think I'm getting anything I'm not entitled to." - Waynesboro, Pa.
