Edward Jacob "Jake" Stoltz, 94, of Hagerstown, Md., died Wednesday, April 7, 2010, at Washington County Hospital, Hagerstown.

Born Feb. 5, 1916, in Asheville, Pa., he was the son of the late Peter Celestine and Gertrude Sarah Hopfer Stoltz.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Anna M. Stoltz, in 2007.

He was a 1933 graduate of Portage High School, Portage, Pa.

He was employed with Calvert Distillery in Relay, Md., retiring in 1978.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving during World War II.

He was a member of St. Augustine Roman Catholic Church, Williamsport, Md.

He was a member of the Order of the Alhambra in Severna Park, Md., Knights of Columbus in Severna Park, American Legion Post 430 of Portage and VFW Post 895 of Portage.


Survivors include daughter, Helen M. Karn of Hagerstown; son, Edward J. Stoltz of Parkton, Md.; son, Richard F. Stoltz of Ashburn, Va.; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by three sisters, Rita Moyer, Grace Timpf and Mary Catherine Jacober; and four brothers, Peter Stoltz, Philip Stoltz, George Stoltz and Carl Stoltz.

The family will receive friends at Osborne Funeral Home, 425 S. Conococheague St., Williamsport on Friday, April 9, 2010, from 6 to 8 p.m. The funeral home will be open after 9 a.m. Friday for the convenience of family and friends.

A Mass of Christian burial will be held at St. Augustine Roman Catholic Church, Williamsport, on Saturday, April 10, 2010, at 10 a.m. with Father Stephen Hook as celebrant. Interment will be in Rocky Gap State Veteran's Cemetery, Flintstone, Md., on Monday, April 12, 2010, at 11 a.m.
