Hubs get past Williamsport

April 08, 2010

HAGERSTOWN -- North Hagerstown scored two runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to rally for a 5-4 win over Williamsport on Wednesday in an MVAL Antietam baseball game.

"It was a good win," North Hagerstown coach Steve Myers said. "It was a tough game the whole way. We were lucky that we came out on top. So far this year, we have been getting some clutch hits when we have needed them."

North (5-2, 2-1) started its game-winning rally with two outs in the last of the fifth. Andrew Yacyk singled to center and scored the tying run on a double to left by Phillip Pietro, who scored what proved to be the winning run on a double to left by Jake Bachtell.

Pietro ended up with a pair of RBI doubles, while Yacyk had two hits and scored two runs for the Hubs.

Conner Spessard got the win in relief and Justin Breeden picked up the save for the Hubs.

Jason Hammond had two hits for the Wildcats (4-4, 2-1).

"We played solid defense," Williamsport coach Larnie Vickers said. "We just came up a little bit short. North got a couple of key hits right at the end to get those runs in."

The Hubs scored one run during each of the first three innings to take an early 3-0 lead.

The Wildcats scored two runs in both the fourth and fifth innings to take a 4-3 lead.
